MAFAR, MSU-Mag sign MOA to promote halal industries in the region

MAGUINDANAO- Minister of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D and Dr. Bai Hejira Nefertiti S. Macalandong-Limbona, chancellor of Mindanao State University – Maguindanao Campus,  have inked the Memorandum of Agreement to develop and promote Halal industries, on Wednesday, February 2.

Under the MOA is according to Republic Act (RA) No. 10817, otherwise known as the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Act of 2016.

The signed agreement is focused on achieving equity and justice among our farmers, producers in increasing employment opportunities for the domestic labor force.

The MOA will be executed by the parties mentioned above to establish their roles and responsibilities concerning the management of the Halal Livestock Demonstration Farm at MSU- Maguindanao.

Moreover, the Municipality of Upi in Maguindanao was identified in the Project Document as one of the sites for establishing Halal Livestock Demonstration Farm; however, the team found that it will take time and resources to rehabilitate the facilities at the Research Outreach Station (ROS).

The Project Team determined that the proposed site at the College of Agriculture in MSU was appropriate for establishing the Halal Livestock Demonstration Farm.

 In connection to this collaboration, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will be providing technical assistance to the Department of Agriculture in developing and piloting Halal livestock production systems, which can be replicated to other areas in the Bangsamoro region and the outside regions.
