MAFAR re-activates FARMC thru Fisheries Programs

In line with the celebration of the National Farmer’s and Fisherfolks Month, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform through the Fisheries Services have gathered to confer issues and concern, particularly on the re-activation of the Fisheries and Agriculture Regional Management Council (FARMC).

On May 12, around 40 individuals comprised fisheries officials and Fisherfolks from five provinces participated in the said activity at D and M catering services, Cotabato City

Director II for Fisheries Services, Dr. Macmod D. Mamalangakp, said the main objective of the activity is to set the venue for the consultation and re-activation of the FARMC and expand its program to strengthen the economy of fisheries activity.

He also encourages participants to create significant output to provide different programs to expand their life status according to Moral Governance.

Furthermore, Bangsamoro, Director-General for Fisheries Services Pendatun Patarasa, signifies the value of farmers and fisherfolks in the society.

BDG Patarasa said the farmers and fisherfolks must be acknowledged because they are the partners in sustaining food sufficiency in the country.

The celebration of the National Farmer’s and Fisherfolks Month is under the Presidential Proclamation No. 33, issued on May 21, 1989, which is celebrated every month of May and aims to recognize and acknowledge the effort of fisherfolks as the main contributor to the economic growth.

This year’s theme is “Buwan ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda 2022: Modernisasyon at Industriyalisasyon Tungo sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita”.

Through the consultation and re-activation, the fisheries services hope to empower the fisherfolk and develop their capabilities and gain new information that shall be used for the management of fisheries and aquatic resources.

It is expected that after the re-activation of the FARMC, more programs will be addressed, and its member will serve as consultative and recommendatory bodies to the LGUs.
