Minister Yacob attends AGRICITIES meeting in Turkey

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., attended the Second Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the International Agricultural Cities Union (AGRICITIES) held at Konya Metropolitan Municipality.

On May 25-27, 2022, the activity aims to develop

cooperation and project opportunities between municipalities in the agricultural and sustainable development field.

On behalf of BARMM, Minister Yacob said, “Congratulations on this initiative of bringing the different countries/cities to interact with each other and share experience and expertise in agriculture.”

“Thank you for inviting the MAFAR-BARMM; this is not only an opportunity but an achievement for us; it is indeed our pleasure to be a participant and become a member of the noble organization,” Minister Yacob said.

He said the decision to establish the AGRICITIES is highly commendable as this will empower other members to share their techniques and expertise; hence is needed to in the making seen in insufficient resources and initiative in common interest and increase the impact of agriculture and promote breakthroughs and boost the ability to compete for the onward market.

The AGRICITIES identified the public institutions and municipalities from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, Philippines, especially MAFAR, to be a member of the union.

AGRICITIES participants visited the Tumosan 1975, Turko Tractor Factory, Chocolate Factory, Turko Soiless Planting, Kalkan Meyve Processing Company for dry fruits.

During the Global Agriculture Forum, Minister Yacob and different heads discussed their work towards climate change, which is an important title of Konya Model Municipality, and agricultural supports.

Minister Yacob said, “We have taken measures against global climate change in three topics: supporting production, supporting livestock, and establishing a product distribution system in the region.”

In addition, Director General for Agriculture Daud Lagasi, Ph.D., and Director-General for Agrarian Reform Taugan Kikay, Ph.D., are present during the forum.
