Training on Rice Post-harvest Operation and Maintenance

Engineering Section of Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform facilitated three (3) day training on post-harvest operation and maintenance in response to the request of Bangsamoro Development Agency for the implementation of Mindanao Trust Fund Reconstruction and Development Project phase 3 (MTF-RPD/3) in support to the comprehensive agreement on the Bangsamoro, on March 9-11, 2021 at Brgy, Dungguan, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao.

The said training was attended by 20 participants from the youth sector of people’s organization.

On the first day, Engr. Abdulhaq Gayak, MAFAR Engineer, gave a lecture on different rice post-harvest operations and practices from rice harvesting and threshing, rice drying, and rice milling from manual or traditional to mechanical methods. He also discussed the different methods of crop protection for controlling weeds, pests, and insects to avoid 70% yield losses on rice farming.

On the other day, Engr. Kiram Solaiman, Jr., tackled the basic mechanical principle and maintenance of different rice post-harvest machinery from the harvester, thresher, mechanical dryer, and rice mill both multi-pass and single-pass in preparation to the incoming 1 unit Japanese rice mill that will be given to the participants. Engr. Saiden Abdul, also gave a lecture on basic construction procedures, practices and different kinds of construction material from low cost to high cost in preparation to the construction of machinery shed that counterpart of the participants.

After the training, the participants are equipped with basic rice post-harvest operation and management and ready to operate and manage the Japanese rice mill.
