MAFAR implements agricultural training in Sulu

PATIKUL, Sulu- The Training Management Team of MAFAR Sulu has conducted two (2) training programs on High-Value Production Technologies for Rice, Corn, and Vegetables on October 11-13, and High Yield Production Technologies for Coffee, Cacao and Cassava on October 15-17, held at MAFAR-Sulu Conference Room, Brgy. Bangkal.

These capacity-building training aimed to enhance the agricultural vocational-technical skills of farmers and fisherfolks in the province, which they can use for their agriculture-based livelihoods and their employment.

Forty (40) out of 120 targeted beneficiaries from the different Community-Based Organizations (CBO) from Jolo and Patikul completed two batches of training composed of Bangsamoro farmers and fisherfolk, decommissioned, and to be decommissioned combatants, OSYs, IPs, and JICA-MDLIP.

Assistant to the Minister for Special Concerns and Focal Person on FAO Projects Pendatun S. Patarasa, in his message, thanked the FAO and the Government of Japan for the assistance extended under the project.

He explained the challenges of the project implementation scheme amidst the COVID 19 pandemic, including the Letter of Agreement (LoA) execution which was the basis of project implementation in the BaSulTa.

He mentioned that this project is one of the products of peace negotiation, which the ministry has to deliver as part of the commitment of the Bangsamoro government to bring its services closer to the people and farmers/ fisherfolk.

During the closing program, Member of the Parliament Hon. Adzfar Usman attended and delivers a message of support to the project, primarily this is intended for the Tausug in the Province of Sulu.

The MAFAR-Sulu supervises the said training programs and field exposures spearheaded by its Provincial Director Engr. Alfie Iribani and Chief Agriculturist Jun Ammak, with technical assistance from the Project Team co-facilitated by Mr. Zulfikar Samsaraji and Mr. Abdulhalim Abubakar.

The Project “Agriculture Training for the Establishment of Peace in Mindanao” is a partnership project of MAFAR with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with funding support from the Government of Japan.
