Agriculture Sector conducts weekly Price Monitoring

LAMITAN CITY,BASILAN | February 10, 2021

The Agriculture Sector conducted a weekly price monitoring of agricultural product at Lamitan City Oval Public Market to ensure an adequate supply of goods and commodities, following the declaration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of a state of calamity due to COVID-19 and the imposition of a nationwide price freeze on basic necessities.

The activity was spearheaded by Datu Fadh Jaljalis, Chief Agriculturist Officer, facilitated by AMAD Provincial Coordinator Ilmie Ibama, Program Assistant Musir Nayang, Merham Mingkong, MMO Manuel Hamja and staff officer from Lamitan City GSO and Office of City Market Supervisor Under the supervision of Provincial Director-II Sir Hanie Awalin Junuban, JD. and Regional AMAD Chief Sir Tong Pinguiaman with coordination to Hon. Rosita Uy Furigay City Mayor of LGU Lamitan.

Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) aimed to monitor the price of the supplies on basic commodities to prevent profiteering and hoarding by unscrupulous business owner. Conducting a regular inspection on public and private establishments to coordinate efforts to stabilize the price and supplies of basic goods and prime communities at the local level. It recommended suggested retail price or price ceiling for certain basic prime and commodities to concern agencies.

Furthermore, this will establish a mechanism that will readily protect consumers from inadequate supply and unreasonable price increase amid COVID-19 outbreak or any occurrence of calamities.

Also, recommended actions to correct unwarranted price increase and supply shortages that will institute appropriate penalties for illegal price manipulation and other violations of RA. No. 7581.
