MAFAR, LGU conducts harmonization meeting in Sulu

The Fisheries Regulatory and Law Enforcement Division has conducted a harmonization meeting and workshop with partner Local Government Units and allied agencies on July 31, 2022, at Sulu Area Coordinating Center, Provincial Capitol, Jolo, Sulu.

The activity aims to discuss and harmonize plans and activities related to fishery law

enforcement to strengthen the point of collaboration among allied agencies, and identify gaps in recommendations for effective and efficient Law Enforcement in

the Bangsamoro region.

Participated by LGU representatives from 19 municipalities of Sulu as well as the allied agencies: the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) & Philippine CoastGuard (PCG)

BDG for Fisheries Services Mr. Pendatun S. Patarasa, together with the Legal Officer IV, Atty. Maimona Ampuan and Chief FRMD Mr. Hairodin T. Arap and Ms. Bambai Lumpingan l, the team conducted lectures on the Salient Points of RA 8550 (also known as RA 10654), and the Status of Marine Resources and Commercial Fishing vessel and Gear Licensing in the BARMM.

During the open forum, the participants address their concerns regarding illegal fishing and other issues regarding protecting and conserving fishery resources in their respective areas.

In addition, the MARINA, AFP & PCG, as partner agencies of fishery law enforcement, highlighted their full support & commitment to the ministry’s program on the elimination of IUUF and conservation and protection of the fishery resources.
