Fisheries Sector Assess Lake Balut located at Sitio Maputi, Barangay Guiday T. Biruar, Parang, Maguindanao

PARANG, MAGUINDANAO | February 16, 2021

The Fisheries Sector of MAFAR-BARMM assessed the Lake Balut located at Sitio Maputi, Barangay Guiday T. Biruar, Parang, Maguindanao.
This was led by the Fisheries Resource Management Division headed by Regional Chief Hairodin T. Arap with the team from Fish Health, Research, Fisheries Production Division.

According to Member of Parliament Suwaib L. Oranon, Al-Hadj, Balut Lake seems to be abandon and he requested the MAFAR to evaluate the said lake for development.

MAFAR-Maguindanao Fisheries Operations Chief Noralyn A. Lumbatan said that the area is about 274 hectares with a jurisdiction part of Sultan Mastura and Parang Maguindanao.

The team have assessed and evaluated the parameters of the water like its PH, dissolved oxygen, water salinity, and temperature. Accordingly, the lake has an average depth of 2 to 3 meters from the water surface.

Fisherfolks in the area confirmed that they are still able to catch fishes like tilapia, eel (salan) , climbing perch (pupuyo), mudfish (aluan), and gourami.
