MAFAR-BARMM distributes 41,000 pieces of tilapia fry in Buldon, Maguindanao

 

BULDON, MAGUINDANAO | March 3, 2021

The Fisheries sector of MAFAR-BARMM distributed a total of 41,000 pieces of tilapia fry to the different fish farmers of Barangay Nuyo, Calaan, and Minabay in Buldon, Maguindanao.

Before the distribution activity, the MAFAR team conducted a short program headed by MAFAR -BARMM Aquaculture Section Chief Abdul S. Unggui together with Fisheries Production Division Staff Zai Ali Guiaman, Aquaculture technician Alimudin Macodi, Pahmudin Mampao and Baby K. Dindo- Focal Person for Post-Harvest Fisheries of MAFAR-Maguindanao.

Chief Unggui shared some techniques for a successful tilapia culture, proper pond preparation, and feeding management. Dindo explained that soil type and water quality must be considered to have a healthy and successful tilapia culture.
The beneficiaries expressed their impressions about the activity and one of them said that some problems they encountered was the shortage of the feeds since feeds have 60% cost in the culture period. Therefore, they are requesting of fish feeds accordingly.

In behalf of Buldon Municipal Mayor Abolais A. Manalao, MAFAR-Municipal Officer Rahima Abubacar expressed her gratitude to the MAFAR Team for the support to the Buldon Fish Farmers.

After the distribution, the team also visited the on-going construction of Fishpond located at Barangay Aratup of the said municipality. According to Dindo, it is owned by the Probinsyano Farmers in the area.

The total area they are constructing for fishpond is about three (3) hectare where they have a spring as source of water.
