MAFAR disperse fingerlings to boost fish pond operators’ livelihood

At least 94,000 fingerlings were dispersed to pond owners and operators in MAFAR Research Outreach Station in Mantapoli, Marantao, on September 22 during the culmination day of 60th FishCon Week 2023.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform- Lanao del Sur Provincial Director Atty. Khalid D. Ansano spearheaded the activity.

The fingerlings are sourced from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 10 and are intended to enhance local harvests and improve the livelihoods of pond owners and operators.Provincial Director Ansano showed support for the event, expressing appreciation for BFAR Region 10’s assistance.

Fishpond owners and operators who received the fingerlings were grateful to the Ministry and BFAR for their support.253 individuals received 50 fish cages, 82 recipients of livelihood support, 39 recipients of fingerlings, and 40 participants in an awareness seminar, with an additional 50 participants in the clean-up drive.

The week-long celebration of 60th Fish Conservation not only strengthens the local aquaculture industry but also showcases the collaborative efforts of the community and government agencies to improve the lives of residents in the province of Lanao del Sur.

In addition, 200,000 fingerlings were expected, with the remaining supply set to be distributed.
